Our project idea

Our project idea was developed while traveling in Gambia by Anett Kropp and husband Ulrich Kropp. They rose up to explore the country behind the hotel and established first contacts to the inhabitants. They were impressed by the huge amount of hospitality despite of the poverty. Especially the family of the, at that time 18 year old, Ebrima gave them insights in the everyday life of a normal family. Ebrima was their first Godchild. Back in Germany they noticed  in which affluence we live here and they wanted to share a bit of it. With the next visit to Gambia in 2009 they took school material, childrens clothing and a power generator with them. To see with how many little things the life of the people there could be facilitated inspired them to continue. They quickly managed to thrill friends and family in Germany for this engagement. In June 2009 the project “Nebenan in Afrika” originated under the umbrella of the AWO Kreisverband Schwerin – Parchim e.V.
